re: VISIONS is a series of writing classes that focus specifically on the revision process. Using techniques and activities I've adopted and refined over the last several years, we will engage deeply with our existing work, whether first drafts or fifth, to coax out their fullest potentials. Revision is the richest stage of writing: when patterns, themes, and thrusts emerge, when meaning is made, and when our work begins to guide us.
Each two-hour class is generative, so come prepared to write, discover, and (optionally) share.
These classes are open to writers of all levels, whether just starting out or established. They are designed for writers of prose: fiction, memoir, or essay.
There is a total of seven classes held in SE Portland. You are welcome to take classes a la carte or as an entire series. I promise you will want to take them all.
Please bring a short story, a chapter from a larger work, or an essay you'd like to revise (on laptop or print, whatever you prefer). You can bring the same one to each class or different ones every time.
Because some people prefer to write in silence, I will keep the room quiet as we write. Please bring headphones/ earbuds if you prefer to write with music.
REGISTRATION: Please email me at [email protected] to reserve your spot. Each two-hour class is $40. The entire series of seven classes is the reduced rate of $220 (a $60 savings).
The space where the classes will be held is cozy and vibrant, shared with various artists, bodyworkers, and healers. We have an assortment of teas you can help yourself to, too. A note about accessibility: At this time, to enter the space, use of a staircase is necessary. The church in which the space is housed is planning to undergo a remodel that will include putting in a ramp for wheelchair accessibility. My hope is to offer online courses in the near future that will be accessible to everyone.
